“Sustainable Development: Because  Quality of Life Counts!”
MINISTER MULCAIR ANNOUNCES CONSULTATION MEETINGS ON THE QUÉBEC SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Québec, January 13, 2005 – Mr. Thomas J. Mulcair, Minister of the Environment, announces the holding of consultation meetings to allow organizations and individuals to express their views on the Québec’s Sustainable Development Plan from February 17 to April 21, 2005.

“I invite individuals and organizations to turn out in large numbers for these public meetings which are of strategic importance. Indeed, they will enable us to improve the draft bill respecting the sustainable development of Québec so that this collective initiative can best meet the aspirations of our society as a whole,” stated Minister Mulcair.

These meetings, which will be organized in collaboration with the regional environment councils (CRE), will be held in the following cities on the following dates:

- Rouyn-Noranda and Val d’Or: Thursday, February 17th
- Chibougamau: Friday, February 18th
- Rimouski: Monday, February 21st
- Carleton: Tuesday, February 22th
- Sept-Îles: Friday, February 25th
- Kuujjuaq: Monday, February 28thh and Tuesday, March 1st
- Châteauguay: Thursday, March 3rd
- Joliette: Monday, March 7th
- Québec: Tuesday, March 8th
- Saguenay: Friday, March 11th
- Montréal: Monday, March 14th
- Saint-Georges: Friday, March 18th
- Saint-Jérôme: Monday, March 21st
- Trois-Rivières: Monday, April 4th
- Saint-Hyacinthe: Friday, April 8th
- Longueuil: Monday, April 11th
- Gatineau: Thursday, April 14th
- Sherbrooke: Monday, April 18th
- Laval: Thursday, April 21st

The individuals and organizations that wish to table a memoir or submit their written comments within the context of this consultation have until February 15, 2005 to do so. If they want to be heard during Minister Mulcair’s regional tour, they must register beforehand by e-mail at the following address: consultation.dd@menv.gouv.qc.ca  or by telephone at the following telephone number: (418) 521-3823, extension 4964.

Citizens can also attend the consultation sessions. However, those who wish to make their comments verbally to the Minister will have to register on site. The precise location and times of each of these meetings will be announced later.
