Existing Parks
Québec’s network of national parks currently includes 24 territories and covers an area of 11,081 km2.
Not included in this network is the
parc marin du
Saguenay–Saint-Laurent, which covers an area of 1,246 km2. Created in
concert with the federal government in accordance with specific laws, the
parc marin du Saguenay–Saint-Laurent is jointly managed by the governments
of Canada and Québec. Its overall purpose is to encourage integrated
management of the ecosystems and natural resources within its boundaries
while increasing the level of protection they receive. It is not a national
park in the sense defined by the Parks Act.
