National park projects in Nunavik

On April 9, 2002, the Makivik Corporation, the Kativik Regional Government (KRG) and the Government of Québec signed a partnership agreement on community and economic development in Nunavik. This agreement provided for the creation of the parc national des Pingualuit and three other parks whose purpose is to protect samples of the natural heritage of this region of Québec’s and support the growth of tourism in Nunavik:

Although not yet scheduled for studies involving knowledge acquisition, another Nunavik national park project has been planned and its territory designated as reserved for the parc national des Monts-de-Puvirnituq project.

National park projects (between the 50th and 55th parallel)

Also foreseen is the creation of national parks between the 50th and 55th parallels. Currently, the creation of two parks is under consideration, in partnership with the Cree Nation. These national park projects are:

The Ministère has also begun studies for one national park project in southern Québec:

Territories reserved for park creation

A number of other sites have been reserved by the government for the purpose of creating parks. These areas have been withdrawn from mineral staking, by decrees 91-192 and 92-170. The Ministère will begin work on these sites in the coming years.
