The Government of Québec's Green Fund
The Green Fund was created in 2006 to finance measures and programs that
the Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, Wildlife and Parks carries out
with the help of other governmental partners. Its main purpose is to support
environmental measures aimed at promoting sustainable development, and to
enable the Minister to grant financial assistance to various stakeholders in
society, including municipalities, businesses and non profit organizations
working in the environmental field. Thus, for example, the 26 measures
listed in the 2006-2012 Climate Change Action Plan are financed by the Green
Fund.
The principal sources of revenue for the Fund are the charges payable for
the elimination of residual materials and the annual Green Fund duty (also
called the "duty on gasoline and fossil fuels").
