THE FIRST QUÉBEC-CALIFORNIA CARBON MARKET AUCTION WILL BE HELD TODAY

Québec, November 19, 2014 – The Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques (MDDELCC) will hold a greenhouse gas emission allowances auction today in conjunction with the California Air Resources Board (ARB). This will be the first joint auction held since the two partners linked their respective carbon markets on January 1, 2014.

The auction will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. EST. In all, 23,070,987 units for 2014 and 10,787,000 for 2017 will be put on sale at a minimum price of 12,82 $CAD (11,34 $USD). Québec and California bidders will be able to purchase emission units in order to reach the environmental objectives set for them through the implementation of the greenhouse gas emission allowance cap and trade system.

The results of the auction (the number of emission units sold and their final prices) and the identities of eligible bidders will be posted on November 26, 2014 on the MDDELCC’s web site: www.mddelcc.gouv.qc.ca/changements/carbone.
