Chibougamau, September 23, 2013 - The Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement, de la Faune et des Parcs (MDDEFP) is informing the population that between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013, 265 individuals were intercepted for poaching by wildlife protection agents in the Nord-du-Québec region. The individuals could face 478 charges. If found guilty, they will be liable for fines totalling nearly $100,000.

The charges against the individuals mainly involve hunting and fishing at prohibited times, illegal possession of game, fish and pelts, hunting at night, possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, and engaging in an activity in a wildlife habitat that could modify a biological, physical or chemical element of the habitat of the animal or fish that is the focus of the habitat.

Fish and game seized during the operations carried out by protection agents in the region were turned over to local charity organizations.
