In their March 29, 2009 press conference, Québec Premier Jean Charest and Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks Line Beauchamp announced that Québec has now brought the size of its protected areas to 135,326 km2, equal to 8.12% of its territory, thus exceeding the objective of 8% set by the government in its strategic action plan.
