    Press release (French) – Investment of $30 million in the future Parc national du Lac-Témiscouata, which will cover an area of 176.5 km2, making it the second largest Québec national park south of the St. Lawrence River, after Parc national de la Gaspésie.

    Press release - Québec increases the total of its protected areas to 135,326 km2, equal to 8.12% of its territory. It thus surpasses the goal of 8% formulated by the government in its strategic action plan.

    In a press conference, Jean Charest announces a new target—protecting 12% of Québec’s land by 2015.

    Press release (French) – Announcement of the Partenaires pour la nature program. With a budget of $25 million over five years, the program partners with conservation organizations and individuals seeking to preserve Québec’s natural heritage.

    Press release - Québec protects an additional 17,800 km2 of natural habitat, totaling 1.07% of its territory. For the most part these protected areas are north of the 49th parallel. One protects one of Québec’s largest rivers, the George.

    Press release – The creation of 23 new protected areas. This substantial increase in protected areas totals 18,220.5 km2, or over 1% of the province’s total area.

    Press release (French) - Addition of 22 new exceptional forest ecosystems (EFEs) and the expansion of two existing EFEs. These sites cover 3,852 ha (38.5 km2) and include 15 old-growth forests, two forests sheltering threatened or vulnerable plant species, and five rare forests.

  • June 16, 2007:
    Publication in the Gazette officielle du Québec of the notice of classification for 19 territories deemed to be exceptional forest ecosystems (EFEs), protecting 15 old-growth forests, two rare forests and three forests sheltering threatened or vulnerable species in nine administrative regions of Québec. These territories have a surface area of 37.4 sq. kilometres.

  • February 15, 2007:
    Press release (French)– Publication of the Québec Register of Protected Areas
    7 biodiversity reserve area projects, expansion of a reserve for the purpose of creating a national park and creation of an ecological reserve for a total of 13 955 km2.

  • January 29, 2007:
    Press release – Government of Québec confirm its intention to create Parc national de la Kuururjuaq (4 273 km2), in Nunavik. This national park project was prepared by a working group made up of representatives of the Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et des Parcs (MDDEP), the Kativik Regional Government, the Makivik Corporation and the village of Kangiqsualujjuaq.

  • November 9, 2005:
    Press release – Government confirm its intention of teaming up with the Cree Nation of Mistissini to create the first inhabited park in the boreal forest : Albanel-Témiscamie-Otish Park (more than 11 000 km2).

    Press Release (French) - Creation of the Programme de conservation du patrimoine naturel en milieu privé (budget of 9 million dollars over 3 years for the conservation of natural heritage on private land). The program aims to support, on a cost-sharing basis, private sector conservation initiatives in order to develop a network of protected areas on private land.

    Press release (French) – 3 aquatic reserves, 15 biodiversity reserve projects and the expansion of 4 biodiversity reserve projects for a total of 6 759 km2.

    Press release (French) - 41 new territories were classified as exceptional forest ecosystems (EFE) in 10 administrative regions of Québec.

     Press release (French) - Protection of 37 exceptional forest ecosystems in 8 administrative regions of Quebec: 26 old-growth forests, 9 rare forests and 2 forests containing threatened or vulnerable species, for a total area of 37 kilometres2.

    Press release - 6 biodiversity reserve projects and an aquatic reserve project, covering over 3 200 km2 in Abitibi and baie James.

    Press Release (French) - Adoption of the Natural Heritage Conservation Act. This Act creates 3 new legal statuses for protecting natural heritage, providing more flexibility as well as a wider scope of methods for protecting biodiversity. By incorporating the Act respecting ecological reserves and the Act respecting nature reserves on private land it ensures better coherence in conservation activities.

    Press release - 11 territories reserved in the boreal forest of the Côte-Nord to be desginated as protected areas, and 6 parks, for a total of 32 000 km2.

    Press Release (French) – Financial support of 1 million $ for start-up of an assistance program for conservation of protected areas on private land. The program Partenaire pour la conservation volontaire is based on partnership and aims to encourage conservation on private lands by supporting owners and non-governmental conservation groups.

     Press Release (French)– Partnership agreement with Ducks Unlimited (2,4 million $) in order to support, in Québec, the development of a national network of protected areas on private land.

    Press Release (French) – Partnership agreement with the Nature Conservancy of Canada (10 million $) in order to support, in Québec, the development of a national network of protected areas.

  • June 12, 2001:
    Press Release (French) - Adoption of the Act respecting nature reserves on private land. The purpose of this Act is to promote protection, by the owners, of natural areas on private land in order to conserve biological, ecological and landscape features.

     Press Release (French)- Québec prepares a framework policy for a strategy that would allow it to protect areas totalling some 8% of its territory and protect its biodiversity.
